Description
Spanish citizens are granted Spanish passports (Pasaporte Español) in order to travel outside of Spain. Each and every Spanish national is also an EU citizen. Free movement and residency in any member state of the European Union and European Economic Area are made possible by the passport and national identity card.
In addition to the personal information found in machine-readable OCR lines, all new passports issued by the Spanish government after January 2015 are the so-called biometric or electronic passport (e-passport), which has a chip embedded in the back cover that contains biometric information related to the document’s owner’s face image.
